The Formative Model is a somato–educational understanding of the human being as he/she addresses the challenges and opportuniities of daily life. These include family and social conditioning, crises, dilemmas, transitions and trauma.
It is inspired by the Formative Psychology of Stanley Keleman as well as by a number of other therapeutic modalities, such as Pre and Perinatal Therapy, Craniosacral Biodynamics, Polarity Therapy, and others. Its Therapeutic Method is built on a number of life-enabling factors and priniciples critical to working deeply, effectively, safely and creatively with clients´ varying needs.
The Key principles, which the course explores in detail, are:The Archetypal Pulse
The primary organizing principle of forming and of life. All life forms are organized around the pulse, its cycles and rhythms.
The Principle of Polarity
An ordering force at all scales of life – from quantum to galactic, including the human. It moves us in all our day to day activities.
The Flow of Energy, Information and Matter
These grow and maintain the living body throughout its lifetime. They function through Oscillation, Resonance, Rhythm, and Coherence.
The therapeutic method is constructed on the body´s inherent forming process, as seen in embryology and morphogenesis. from the cell itself to the forming of the nervous and other organ systems.
Action and Embodiment
This is the centerpiece and primary concern of the body, supported and informed by feedback, including sensation, feeling, thought, memory. Embodiment and action are based on inherited biological pre-programming and on voluntary choice and effort.
The Human Developmental Sequence and Emergence
New perspectives and capabilities for passing through and managing life stages and transitions.
The Formative Methodology incorporates the “Bodying Practice” of Stanley Keleman as a primary procedure for self-education, therapy and dealing with life´s challenges and opportunities. This practice is built on neuroscience, embryological studies and , modern physics in their implications for on-going human formativeness.
The Skill Base necessary to practice Formative Embodiment includes many abilities it shares with other therapeutic modalities, although it adapts a number of them to serve specifically the fundamental principles of the formative approach.
These include:
- Containment
- Presence
- Mirroring
- Precise Tracking of client shifts and responses
- Accurate reflection of emotional and expressive states
- Listening to client narratives at many levels simultaneously (content, emotion, gesture, relational dimension, energetics)
- Relational skills including contextualizing, differentiating, appropriate communication and rhythm
They will have:
- a step-by-step methodology that, among other functions, amplifies and clarifies the signaling processes among the nervous, motor and metabolic systems, with the heart as the central mediator
- a method to connect the inherent reflex systems of the body (fight, flight, freeze) with voluntary influence and reorganization of defensive responses
- a way to use gestures of the hands and postures of the body to clarify aspects of their unconscious process that are difficult to access in other ways.
- a new way to explore their deep imprints and scripts and to help recognize them, explore them, disorganize and reorganize them
- a way to activate the deep inherent Formative Intelligence that is committed to mature the potentials of their inner “conceived adult.”
The course will include lecture, demonstration, individual and small group exercises, personal coaching and other activities to enable learning and deepening in the material.
Dr. Jim Feil
Jim Feil, MA, DC, RPP, RCST has been in the field of complementary health care since 1970. He began his career in the healing arts by studying with Dr. Randolph Stone, founder of Polarity Therapy, from 1970 to 1973. He began practicing Polarity Therapy in California in 1973, and started teaching and training therapists in 1976. He was one of the founding directors of the American Polarity …
